Roadshow cracks nearly R16m in traffic fine representations

The roadshows, hosted three to four times a year, have become one of the most popular City outreaches. At the most recent event in Athlone, more than 3 600 individuals queued to settle fines and outstanding warrants.

The roadshows are held in collaboration with the City’s  Municipal Courts, Revenue Services and other internal stakeholders.

This ‘one-stop shop’ initiative is designed to provide motorists with the convenience of resolving outstanding traffic matters, settle warrants, and negotiate fine reductions – all under one roof.

During the six-day roadshow, more than R4,1 million was paid in fines, with R11,5 million recorded based on representations.

‘The traffic fine roadshow is clearly growing in popularity and our Traffic Service will continue to take these payment opportunities to communities. The turnout is a reminder once more of the sheer number of driving transgressions and related fines generated on a daily basis. So, while we are grateful to those members of the public who have now handled their business, we sincerely hope that the hours in the queue and the money that was parted with are enough motivation to pay closer attention to the rules of the road.

‘As we head into the Easter long weekend and ramped up road safety interventions, those who have cleared the slate can stop at roadblocks and vehicle checkpoints with confidence. To everyone else, please use the existing fine and warrant payment channels to ensure a hassle-free long weekend,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
